Welcome to this on-line presence of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, a congregation of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. We hope you find our website informative and helpful in providing the information you are seeking.

This congregation has a rich history in the community of Sydney Mines, being first established by immigrants to Canada who came to work in the coal mining industry in the area. The present day vitality of the congregation is experienced as it gathers in weekly services of worship and shares together in service and fellowship opportunities within the community.

Guiding the life of this congregation is its mission statement “To know Christ and make Him known”. Services of worship, while traditional in their format, seek to speak in a contemporary way about following Jesus and growing in faith in our everyday lives. The congregation reaches out to others through its community youth ministry program on Sunday evenings, a summer week-long program for children traditionally called Vacation Bible School (VBS…now Summer Bible Fun Days), and in its support of community initiatives such as the local Sydney Mines Food Bank, the community’s Christmas Cheer program and “Community Cares” an organization that reaches out to young adults in providing skill development and educational up-grading towards economic and social well-being. In addition the congregation participates with other churches in the community by providing services of worship in local residential care facilities. In responding globally, the congregation participates through financial contributions to Presbyterian World Service and Development and Presbyterians Sharing, funding sources of the national church that support projects in Canada and around the world. One young adult in the congregation has been a participant in mission exposure experiences hosted by the Presbyterian Church in Canada to such places as Louisiana (following Hurricane Katrina), Jamaica and the Ukraine and has shared about these experiences in the life of the congregation.

As you explore this website, may you come to know more about the life of St. Andrew’s, its up-coming special events that gather people together in up-lifting ways and opportunities for nourishing the journey of faith in the company of those who seek to follow Jesus, the Risen Christ.

Welcome….Rev. Ritchie Robinson
